Description

This duet was written to remember those who have taken their own lives. I did not write this in hopes to remember one specific person, but to give everyone who has lost a loved one to suicide a way to remember them. This piece is designed to have one last conversation with those we have lost with the off-stage snare drum representing those who are no longer with us. . Each section is designed around a different stage of grief and the music is set up more as a conversation rather than the two parts working together. A rough translation of the word “hello” in morse code is used as the main theme throughout the piece. At the end, the off-stage snare drum stops playing as the on-stage snare repeatedly calls out to them, hoping to hold onto them for just a few more moments.
